The year 2016 was a monumental and unforgettable year for Cupid’s Landing, simply because it is the year it all began. We are so beyond thrilled – I dare say we are moved with emotion – when we think back to the very beginning in April of this year. It seems like not a very long time ago, but we have accomplished and learned so much since then. Your support and donations have enabled us to not only surpass our own goals for the year, but also to support other organizations and begin helping animals now even though we don’t have land yet. We would like to take a moment to share these accomplishments and achievements with you:
In March, we created this website, and finally got the Cupid’s Landing idea out into the world.
In April, we established Cupid’s Landing as an official business in the state of Washington. We acquired our state business license, and became a non-profit corporation. We opened a Cupid’s Landing bank account. We held our first fundraiser, which was a homemade pasta and pesto cooking demo held at Mae’s house.
In May we continued the cooking demo fundraisers, with a sauerkraut/vegan tuna salad demo.
In June, we received a $400 grant from So Delicious Dairy Free to pay for our 501(c)(3) application. That application was approved on June 20th, which means Cupid’s Landing became a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We partnered up with Dr. Joanne Kong and Paula Furner for a fundraiser/presentation called “The Power of Plant Based Eating,” held at Marlene’s Market and Deli in Tacoma.
In July, we stepped up our fundraising game with a garage sale and free vegan BBQ, where we raised over $1,770. Thanks to the generous folks at Field Roast, Tofurky, Follow Your Heart, and Townshends Brew Dr. Kombucha, we were able to keep the grill going and provide delicious food to visitors all day for free.
In August, we took part in a free health and wellness seminar held at Tacoma Community College, where we set up a table, met some kind folks, and raised funds.
In October, we celebrated our 6 month anniversary, and held yet another incredibly successful fundraiser – our vegan wine and cheese tasting. At this event, we premiered the sales of our first t shirts, which you can still purchase here. We formed a partnership with Sky’s The Limit Sanctuary to help them get their new rescue off the ground, and contribute to their rescue efforts.
In November, we sponsored the building of a brand new chicken coop for 12 rescued battery hens that will arrive at Sky’s The Limit within the next week.
And here we are in December, looking back on the year and taking in our successes. We have some very exciting plans in the works for 2017, including a one year anniversary celebration to end them all! Our financial goal this year was to raise $5,000. I am happy to announce that we are currently sitting on $5,135.56. Our financial goal for next year is to raise $10,000, putting us at over $15,000! We can easily surpass this with your help. It’s not too late to donate for 2016! Even just a $5 donation brings us that much closer to our goal, which means more animals’ lives are saved Some of our other goals for 2017 include revamping the website, getting some more swag for sale, partnering with other like-minded local business owners, solidifying a business plan, and beginning to look at land. We were initially aiming to purchase land within the next ten years, but after reflecting on our first year’s success, we are now aiming for five years! Happy Holidays, my friends. Thank you so much for standing by us and helping us get this far. Your support now will literally change lives, for animals and people alike. Here’s to a wonderful new year!
